So incredibly grateful to have been a scholarship recipient for the March 2023 retreat. It was an incredible opportunity, and an amazing experience, like nothing I’ve ever done in my life. I found staff to be incredibly kind, trauma-informed, knowledgeable, compassionate, empathetic, and supportive. I was in an absolutely beautiful environment, perfect for our activities, peaceful and serene, and the “summer camp”-like accommodations were fun!
I cannot say enough about how much this experience meant to me and my incredible gratitude in being able to attend. I believe the retreat kickstarted a much-needed shift for me refocus on a more self-affirming direction in my life. A big reminder and reinforcement of my ongoing trauma therapy to give *myself* the same compassion, empathy and acceptance I’ve given others — both as a nurse and social worker of many years and as a trauma survivor wanting to “care for” everyone else ahead of myself.
The retreat gave me a beautiful space to see things differently (including seeing myself differently), to breathe differently, to understand differently and to honor ourselves as women — different though we may be — we’re all survivors striving to thrive. This retreat gave all of us the tremendous opportunities to do just that.
I hope to attend more retreats with UH!!
Thank you!
I spent my time with 14 women from all over the country, and from all walks of life. We laughed, we cried, we learned, and we reconnected with ourselves and with nature. I have been in and out of therapy for years and have had many different experiences with body work in the past. I thought I was heading into this retreat with a ‘leg up’. What I learned after my 4 days at camp, was that I was dead wrong, and I have so much room to learn & grow! Each facilitator brought so much knowledge and personal experience to this retreat. I showed up with some knowledge, but I left with connection, openness, and a sisterhood that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. If any of you are feeling stuck, unsettled, unsure, sad, or need to heal from emotional trauma, I can’t recommend this experience enough. You will leave with self-empowerment, self-awareness, stress relief, new friends, and a whole big bag of tools to help with your emotional and physical journey.
