What are people saying?

So incredibly grateful to have been a scholarship recipient for the March 2023 retreat. It was an incredible opportunity, and an amazing experience, like nothing I’ve ever done in my life. I found staff to be incredibly kind, trauma-informed, knowledgeable, compassionate, empathetic, and supportive. I was in an absolutely beautiful environment, perfect for our activities, peaceful and serene, and the “summer camp”-like accommodations were fun!

I cannot say enough about how much this experience meant to me and my incredible gratitude in being able to attend. I believe the retreat kickstarted a much-needed shift for me refocus on a more self-affirming direction in my life. A big reminder and reinforcement of my ongoing trauma therapy to give *myself* the same compassion, empathy and acceptance I’ve given others — both as a nurse and social worker of many years and as a trauma survivor wanting to “care for” everyone else ahead of myself.

The retreat gave me a beautiful space to see things differently (including seeing myself differently), to breathe differently, to understand differently and to honor ourselves as women — different though we may be — we’re all survivors striving to thrive. This retreat gave all of us the tremendous opportunities to do just that.

I hope to attend more retreats with UH!!
Thank you!

March 2023

I spent my time with 14 women from all over the country, and from all walks of life. We laughed, we cried, we learned, and we reconnected with ourselves and with nature. I have been in and out of therapy for years and have had many different experiences with body work in the past. I thought I was heading into this retreat with a ‘leg up’. What I learned after my 4 days at camp, was that I was dead wrong, and I have so much room to learn & grow! Each facilitator brought so much knowledge and personal experience to this retreat. I showed up with some knowledge, but I left with connection, openness, and a sisterhood that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. If any of you are feeling stuck, unsettled, unsure, sad, or need to heal from emotional trauma, I can’t recommend this experience enough. You will leave with self-empowerment, self-awareness, stress relief, new friends, and a whole big bag of tools to help with your emotional and physical journey.

This retreat was an absolute life changing experience for me. It was hard for me to open up to such a large group as I am more of a one-on-one type and a bit guarded with my heart. I was able to reflect inward and at the same time release so much stagnation, pain, sadness, and anger through the embodiment work & sound bath experience. The embodiment work was challenging but thinking about it as more as a practice has helped. Letting go of what others think, not caring how I look while moving my body will all take time. I do find myself dancing more than usual at home and it feels SO. DAMN. GOOD!

Although an anxiety-inducing experience of sharing the most intimate moments of our lives with 15 strangers, this retreat gave me a sense of purpose again, it gave me hope that it does get better and that I am capable of living with my past experiences. I am starting to see those experiences as things that happened a long time ago and leaving them there, but also taking good things out of those experiences and almost giving myself a sticker for doing a good job in enduring some difficult situations. Without this scholarship, I wouldn't have gained a family of women whom I can now reach out to without having to explain why I am reaching out. I have gained a sense of self once again and can speak about some things without hyperventilating. I also have gained numerous amounts of tools from breathing, to listening, to hearing myself, my body, and my surroundings. I've also learned to write for the sake of just laying it all out there. Although just a short amount of time, I experienced a rebirth of some sort and a huge sense of community which is what I was craving to begin with. I look forward to the next opportunity for the retreat. This has become now part of my budget. If I knew then what I know now, this retreat is invaluable, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of this ever-changing experience.

It was beyond my expectations. I was a little nervous about it, but the schedule was such that we eased into it. I was totally caught off guard at the meditation Saturday morning when tears just started flowing -- such a release of emotions. I liked that it wasn't all about sharing our trauma or pain unless we wanted to confide in someone or just share a snippet like the facilitators did. It was definitely a healing experience — exhausting and yet rejuvenating. I have a whole different outlook on life and haven't been bogged down with 'old tapes' playing in my head.

This life-altering experience was amazingly cathartic. Dana is not only a true inspiration but runs an absolutely amazing program with some incredible facilitators! I have already recommended it to several friends. The location is stunning, the information incredibly valuable and the coping mechanisms I was taught will significantly improve my life.
